The Adventurists

A rally which starts from Goodwood Race track in England and ends (for some) in the Mongolian Capital Ulaan Baatar……four weeks and a whole heap of ‘living on the knife edge’ later and what you have is the Mongol Rally!

I know what you are thinking……..Who would be so crazy to even entertain such an undertaking?!

Well……that’s where we come in, so let us introduce ourselves as Matt Gault and Wayne Mills-Kidals…two friends from Lincoln who have an undeniable thirst for adventure and all things risk-laden but at the same time, we know a good cause when we see one! We hope to take on the challenge of the Mongol Rally and have armed ourselves with a Suzuki Jimny 1300cc as being just the tool for the job!

a decent blog update at last..

Posted by Wayno at 31st July 2010 at 23:49

its been pretty manic the past week, little sleep and lots of driving... ive not had chance to make a decent blog post other than the SMS updates which only seem to allow one message of update to appear on the website.

after launch we travelled to france, ended up blagging a free nights camping (since its all for charity ) :-) then it was on towards the part in the castle in CZ, we stopped off for some Bratwrust as you do and had a good old knees up with the rally crew in the CZ castle..

Since then we have been in convoy with a great pair of lads and one of them had his wife in toe for a few days but she departed from Turkey today, probably a good idea as its going to get downhill from here... interestingly they had a 2 seater van and managed to alternate a third person in back! that was interesting at border crossings but managed to get through them all without any  hassle..

Romania was not what i expected, very backwards, lots of original Romany Gypsies all over, didnt fancy staying too long in there, the boys we are in convoy with got pulled for an overtaking manuvre and it set them back 50 dollars! not bad considering they started the bidding at 200USD! but it was worth it for the Transfagarian highway which has featured on top gear as one of the best roads in the world.. it would of been amazing in something with a bit more poke but the Jimny managed it no probs.. on the downside Steve came in contact with a some trippy frog so a quick stop at a back street Romanian hospital and a few injections and we was on our way again to Bulgaria... Bulgaria was just a whistlestop tour, we ploughed through and headed to Turkey..

Spent the night in a hostel in Istanbul, had our first car accident but it wasnt us, the taxi drivers are insane our there, we caught a cab to the Blue Mosque and I managed to get my face planted in the window because our driver wasnt paying attention and ended up the back of another driver.. i think its fairly common our there, they just had a quick inspection and was back on there ways again just a little paint-work!

Today we drove past the capital and are currently in the wild west part of Turkey! its not for the faint hearted and our orginal plan was just to camp up but the locals dont seem the friendliest so we gave it a miss and the plan tomorrow is to do another marathon drive to the Iran Border..

Ill update you all as and when we can! thanks for eveybody whos been tracking and texting!

PS - turkey internet doesnt seem to get on well with google so having issues uploading to the web albums! at the minute there all going on facebook..
