Whats This All About Then?

ALL islanders love travelling, and it is the ambition of every young Englishman to go for a jaunt abroad, if only once in his life.

Our nomad ancestry and our worldwide Empire alike lure us beyond the seas, but we are often held back from satisfying this craving by thinking it too difficult or too costly. It has been said that the getting out of doors is the hardest part of the journey, and it is a man's own fault if he dies without seeing anything of the wonderful world in which he lives.

Laziness and circumstance hold back many of us who would be ideal travellers could we but take the first step. But you can, with determination, change this. Once aware of your bonds, you are on the highroad to freedom; need not be dissuaded by those who tell you that you must know your own country first. You will have time enough for that.

Then there is the notion that travelling is only for the rich. But a wise man's happiness costs very little wherever he is, for a man can live as cheaply abroad as at home. So do not wait until you are rich, but set out while you are young and keen.

Whats This Really All About Then?

This summer we are off on the mongol rally, the idea is to drive a 1.2 litre or less car from london to the capital of Mongolia Ulan Bator. There is no back up, help or rescue, just us, our keen rapier wit and our increasingly rubbish vehicles.

If you have never heard of the rally or want more details, it is summed up much more eloquently then we can manage here: rally overview

We will be keeping you up to date with out progress on the road through our blog here at make-mine-a-quinine HQ and also on twitter and faceboosh
