The Adventurists
Mon Goose

Welcome to Team Mon Goose

Clive and Michelle Rockliffe are embarking on an epic driving adventure which begins on 24th July 2010 from Goodwood (UK) and ends (hopefully) in Mongolia about 5 weeks later. We are one of 300 Teams taking part in the Mongol Rally in an attempt to reach Mongolia by driving a third of the way round the world (get your Atlas out!) Our adventure takes us across deserts, rivers and mountains, in sometimes treacherous conditions, many of the roads will be dirt tracks, not even shown on a map.

Our vehicle is a Suzuki Jimny, more suited to the country lanes of Kent

The vehicle will be donated to charity in Mongolia.

Why would anyone decide to do this you may ask?

We are doing the Mongol Rally 2010 to raise money for two charities.

Clive and Michelle hope to raise at least £1,000 for the Christina Noble Foundation for children in Mongolia and at least £500 or for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in the UK

The Christina Noble Children’s Foundation in Mongolia is a charity dedicated to serving underprivileged children to maximize their life potential. The Foundation ensures the children have access to basic care and educational opportunities. One of the projects for the street children and orphans in Ulaan Baatar is the Blue Skies Ger Village Project which provides a small community of Gers for the children to live in. (Gers are traditional felt tents used in Mongolia for over a thousand years). Each Ger is staffed by a Ger Mother, often homeless herself, who creates a loving home for the children. Many Mongolian street children struggle to survive the winter in temperatures of minus 30°C. Christina Noble Foundation offers security and stability and the chance of a new start.

Our second charity is the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (see our Just Giving page) Our son Jon was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was 12 years old. Having diabetes has been a challenge for him and many other children and young people with this lifelong condition. We would like to raise at least £500 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) to help find the cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications. JDRF is the world's leading charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research.

Please give generously, sponsor us or just wish us well on our travels.
