at 09:21 on On a wheel and a prayer said After five breakdowns yesturday, we finally rolled into Altai around midnight... A few rowdy Mongolians and the threat of Marc getting stabbed... Could of dampered our spirits but they remind us too much of Ewok's to really take them seriously... Hot shower, bottle of vodka and a badly dubed film were very welcome. We are currently trying to get new shockys fitted on Garrie... Hopefully she will be happy to carry on today!!! However the rumours of a 1meter high river are a little daunting... |

The boys made it to Russia with little difficulty, the boarder was not as bad as they were worried about, there was a little shouting from one guard when Miles decided to go for wonder, however, this particular guard was only to return greeting the weary travellers with a warm glow and subsequently requesting a $20 “Mongolia Tax” I.E. “Mongol Rally Tax” ‘happy’ to oblige they moved on to a very thorough search by means of flicking the Jerry Can and asking if they possessed any contraband and/or Clashnicoffs luckily the boys had hidden there Clashnicoff well within... Got over the boarder into the Ukraine but the border crossing took quite some time and darkness had very much set in so to avoid driving about like exhaustless Ladas we drove into an old petrol station and kipped there for the night.. Waking up in a car, is not an experience that I would wish on anyone and we had obviously not learnt much from doing it in Lens or perhaps the Ukraine morning heat was making it that much worse. Either way it seemed like I’d have to get used to it if I was going... Read more ... |

All was going well until the convoy pulled up for a pit stop. I was feeling pretty parched by that point due to the 40 degree heat, so the boys filled me up with thirst quenching unleaded, but suddenly we found ourselves alone. The rest of the convoy had motored ahead leaving us behind and without the aid of a CB Radio we were unable to contact them…We decided to head to Tolsea as that’s where the convoy had earlier agreed to pitch up for the evening. However after driving about 50 miles... Read more ... |

Right, Garrie can be a bit cryptic sometimes. We never really know what she is thinking. But from what we can gather from what she has told us is that her poem is about the first part of our time in Romania: On approaching the Romania boarder we bumped into the ‘Lost Convoy’ consisting of ‘The Great Canadian Beavers,’ ‘Cakeordeath,’ ‘Mad Hatters,’ ‘Team Fudge’ and the big blue van… After a few words with this lovely bunch we established that they were also on their way to the ‘Top Gear Road’ so we decided to join their convoy... Garrie is missing her love Max and so wanted to write a little poem about our time in Romania before she was tragically parted from him… Isn’t she sweet!Arriving at the boarder,I saw his iridescence in my wing mirror,His big red butt did shine, But will his beaver ever be mine? The boys stopped to greet their comrades,Now my eternal loneliness subside, To my happiness I did proclaim,Revving my engine again and again,The Locals came to sit outside,To see this game of chase arrive, First he took me from the rear,And my happiness did appear,The beauty of the landscape did... Driving into Budapest I was in desperate need of a wash, the lads may have been looking out for their own needs Lording it up in hotels, motels and Holiday Inns, but they were seriously neglecting mine. I smelt terrible. Marc drove like a novice once again and to teach him a lesson I cut out a couple of hundred times. His parking is poor too and I nearly coughed out my gear box in disgust when he tried to reverse into a space opposite the Hostel Marco Polo. An apt name I thought. Read more ... |

Its was pretty plane sailing to Prague, the lads feeling a little weary from the night before enjoying the scenery and a few tunes. Marc took the helm, Nick played DJ and Miles rested his eyes….We arrived into Prague at 17:15 and headed for the Centrum to find a Hostel. After about half an hour of driving in circles unable to find a parking space that didn’t have ‘reserve’ splashed across it, Marc started getting a little bored of driving so I took over. Fortunately we bumped into a couple of young lads who offered to direct us to... Read more ... |

They made it to Nuremburg in good time and it was interesting to see that even in their post adolescent states their internal boyhood compass was still very much engaged, directing them straight into the towns red light district, deciding that this was a good place to park, they began their quest to find room at the inn…After being turned away from three hostels (probably because we had forgotten our spandex hot pants) we decided a little bit of luxury wouldn’t go a miss and got a hotel room with a juccussy nonetheless… Nuremburg is a beautiful town... So we’re off, Marc took control of me, Garry their humble steed, for the first leg of the journey and seeing as he hadn’t driven since that epic 2 minute journey to the shops in Malta 2 years ago we all knew we were in safe hands. He however was thinking otherwise, and to be fair I haven’t felt anything shake so much since I drove through Haiti last year.
