BLOG UPDATE: Road Warrior   (12:33 )

10th Aug. Heading home :-)Thats me in Ullan Bator getting ready to head home. A wee bit gutted my wee car didn't manage the last 400 miles. The rear suspension had bottomed out, springs looked like a pile of noodles and my petrol tank was damaged and leaking, sitting about an inch from the road which isn't great when the roads are so bad. Also loud grinding noise from the rear of the car, not to mention all the other problems on-route :-) just thought it wasn't worth the risk, as i am on my own... Read more ...

BLOG UPDATE: Road Warrior   (00:29 )

Tuesday 3rd August.Thats me at the Mongolian border, another 478 miles, the border is closed until tomorrow closed an hour ago. The drive down the Altay region of Russia was amazing, huge mountains and rivers, very green & lush countryside, bit of a tourist area for Russians.Slight delay was caused by a rock slide, but was lucky they opened the road about 30 min after i arrived at the closure.Had a good easy days driving with great views, just about to change my wheels over before i set up camp for the... BLOG UPDATE: Road Warrior   (05:15 )

Sunday 1st august.Change of plan after talking to biker from Derby, decided to take a shorter route back into Russia to give my wee car a fighting chance with lack of roads in Mongolia and not break the car on crap Kazak roads before i get there.I went the route via Petropavlovsk in kazak to Omsk in Russia 469 miles. Dodgy kazak border gaurd tried to get cash for fast track border crossing but got nothing :-) ( Well i am scottish after all) lol. Spent 3 hours a border though.Got stopped... Read more ...

Monday 2nd JulyThats another 563 miles down to Barnaul, roads ok, first 200 were gravelrds then the rest not too bad. Done a bit of a daft one, just going round a bend on a gravel road when a 'BIG' bee flies into my face through the window, i skid and end up in a field, car and me are fine :-) just had a wee heart attack.Could be at the Mongolian border tomorrow all going well, Not sure how mobile coverage will pan out, i'll txt when i can.My first guess... BLOG UPDATE: Road Warrior   (11:49 )

Sunday 31st July.Better day, 487 miles Roads not quite as bad.DIY to car, used cable ties to hold bumper and headlight, seems to work. Lots of guys here seem to have gold teeth and like to smile to show them off :-)Laybys have vehicle inspection ramps, was handy to check the car over, there's also OTT roadside graveyards with ornate structures on most roads. I met a guy from derby on a motorcycle touring, he had come from Mongolia so gave each other advice for the road ahead.Forgot to mention... Read more ...

BLOG UPDATE: Road Warrior   (22:55 )

Hi all, thats me at Aqtobe about 400 miles done today, will have to check later,The roads in kazak are barel roads, they even have dirt tracks next to the main road to drive on as the craters in the main road could easily wreck any vehicle, hence everybody struggles in the tracks.Needless to say it has hade an impact on the old motor, front lower bumper badly damaged, 1 spot light knackered and rear shocks shot.On a plus, a nice kazak couple found me a nice hotel and got me a...
