Day 33 Wednesday, 25 August 2010

Can't quite believe we made it all the way here! This a great city but such a huge contrast to the rest of the country that it is rather a shock. Unfortunately it is nearly time for us to leave. We have handed the car over which was sad - it will cleaned up and auctioned off, the money will then go to charity. I wasn't sure the Mongolian people would want it after that epic journey but we already had enquiries in the rush hour traffic queue on the way to the finish line!I think everyone needs a Nissan... Day 19 Wednesday, 11 August 2010
| |
So we ragged it up to Astana, the newish capital of Kazakhstan. This country is so amazing - the cities are modern and driving round them is hectic but then it is so vast (world's ninth biggest country apparantly) that there are sections of desert - with 2 humped camels aswell as sections that are green and also alot of nothing! The contrasts are really big. There is a super motorway into the capital but then some of the roads are insane - full of potholes or just dirt tracks, those are the most fun! What else...convoyed with some other ralliers... Day 10 Monday, 2 August 2010

Epic journey yesterday, heroic drive by Oliver. Started at 8am from Kyiv and finally arrived at about midnight at our destination - the flat of a friendly group of people who have gone out of their way to host us via couch surfing website. They are super and means we get a glimpse into Ukrainian lifestyle much more than just driving to a big city and taking a photo of the beautiful buildings, although that was fun too.Anyway, yesterday the car battery broke and we were having to get Isaac and Kenneth to jump start us but then we got... Day 8 Saturday, 31 July 2010
| |
Well we think we are about a third of the way there...although the roads have begun to get more bumpy so the journey will become somewhat slower. Massive potholes and crazy overtaking is standard here. The cities are mental to drive in - but hilarious aswell. We are in Kyiv now which is really lovely - lots of pretty buildings and girls in high heels which the boys won't stop talking about! Took a day off to enjoy the city before more hardcore driving. The police here like a bribe and there are traffic police pulling people over everywhere - I... Read more ... |

Day 2 Sunday, 25 July 2010
| |
Word up! We are in the Hague, Holland - slightly off route but decided yesterday it would be a good idea to drop in on Isaac's friend Jonna (Isaac is Oliver's brother who with Kenneth make up Team Jolly Rodger)...we drove straight through France and Belgium and rocked up here about 1am.Next destination is the party in a Castle in Czech Republic so this is about the only time on the trip that we will not be in that much of a rush - although still got about 550 miles to cover till then, but the Micras will love the...
