Car crash stopped us in Kazakhstan

On August 2nd 2010 we had a car accident not far away from the Russian/Kazakh border!

Luckily nobody besides our Suzuki was hurt. Unfortunately it was not possible to continue the journey.

After some struggle with the local police and with the help of four other rally teams we managed to get to the airport in Atyrau.

From there we went by plane to Amsterdam and further to Vienna.

Am 2. August 2010 wurde unserer Reise durch einen Autounfall in Kasachstan ein vorzeitiges Ende gesetzt!

Zum Glück wurde abgesehen vom Suzuki niemand verletzt. Dennoch war an eine Weiterfahrt nichtmehr zu denken.

Nach einigen Unannehmlichkeiten mit der lokalen Polizei und mit der Hilfe von vier anderen Rally Teams gelangten wir zum Flughafen in Atyrau.

Von dort flogen wir über Amsterdam nach Wien.

Das GPS-Gerät für das Live Tracking wird nun von einem anderen Team genutzt.

Extremely hot in Russia. 43 degrees celsius. Roads are in astonishingly good condition. Did some sightseeing in Volgograd yesterday and want to get into Kazakstan today. We're seeing a spanish team on motorbikes every once in a while. Heat must be unbearable for them.

Made it to Ukraine yesterday after 2.5h at the border. It was raining all the time in Poland. Spent the night in our tent in the woods next to the motorway. Met James and Jim (a UK team) at a gas station today. They are going the same route as we are. Convoying to russian border now.@

Space is money

Now that we've got everything we want to take with us we've got to figure out how to get everything in the car. We've got food under the seats and inside the back door and toilet paper inside the spare tire held in place by the cover.

We hope they don't start searching for stuff at the borders because we've been trying to stuff everything in the car for two days now.

The official start is this Saturday and we can't wait to get going.

Jetzt wo wir alles was mitkommt zuhause haben müssen wir irgendwie die Sachen im Auto verstauen. Wir haben Essen unter den Sitzen und Toilettenpapier im Reserverad, welches von der Abdeckung gesichert wird.

Hoffentlich durchsuchen die Grenzbeamten nicht unser Auto, da wir seit zwei Tagen dabei sind alles irgendwie unterzubringen.

Der offizielle Start ist diesen Samstag und wir könnens kaum erwarten endlich loszulegen.

We've got all our visas

Get up, drive, optionally pass a border, refill fuel tank, more driving, do a bit of sightseeing, drive even further, stop and get some sleep. Repeat for 40+ days.

Theoretically there's nothing to stop us now since the car is almost ready and we've finally got our visas for Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia and Mongolia. However, as most of you might guess it won't be as easy as that but it wouldn't be as much fun if it were either.

Please don't panic if we stay put somewhere for a couple of days. If we're not moving for more than a week, however, someone forgot to buy some spare batteries for our FindMeSpot.

Aufstehen, fahren, eventuell eine Grenze passieren, auftanken, weiterfahren, Sehenswürdigkeiten anschauen, noch weiter fahren, Halt machen und schlafen. Das Ganze dann 40+ Tage hintereinander.

Theoretisch steht uns nichts mehr im Wege, da das Auto fast fertig ist und wir jetzt unsere Visa für Kasachstan, Usbekistan, Russland und die Mongolei bekommen haben. Dass es dann doch nicht ganz so einfach sein wird werdet ihr euch sicher denken können aber sonst würde es auch nicht so viel Spass machen.

Bitte geratet nicht in Panik falls wir uns für ein paar Tage nicht vom Fleck bewegen. Falls wir uns doch eine Woche oder länger nicht weiterbewegen, dann hat wohl jemand vergessen ein paar Ersatzbatterien für unseren FindMeSpot zu kaufen.

We finally managed to install the new suspension system. It took us several hours to do so but it's been worth it.

Wir haben endlich das neue Fahrwerk eingebaut. Der Einbau hat ein paar Stunden gedauert aber es hat sich gelohnt.
